This designer cabochon of Dumorturite has nice patterns. Dark blue is the most common color. Color is very often unevenly distributed, exhibiting areas of dark and light blue, similar to lapis lazuli and sodalite. Many stones may also exhibit whitish streaks or spots along with their blue color. Dumortierite mineral impurities within the quartz are responsible for the blue color. . Dumortierite is mined mainly in California and Nevada, but is also found in Brazil, Canada, and France to name a few.
